Friday im in love.

This Friday I’m in love dotty for spots. Completely dotty in fact  – be them large, cut out, irregular or multi coloured. Dalmatian spots were seen at Topshop Unique and Marc Jacobs (although so was every sort of spot at the latter) and the high street has followed suit with polka dots spotted (sorry) at Whistles, ASOS and COS. I really loved the brave styling at Marc Jacobs and next time I have one too many pre-drinks I’ll be out in multiple polka dots!

Suno

Suno have moved away from African inspired prints and made a loud declaration for Granny’s everywhere. Focusing on the elderly generation and their ability to collect pieces without a thought for trend, the ‘exploration on timelessness’ is the driving force behind AW11 says designer Erin Beatty.  The collection has nothing moth bitten or old fashioned about it though, and you won’t see a Suno dressed OAP shuffling around Sainsbury’s anytime soon.  Osterweis and Beatty have kept it modern with a strong print story that runs fluidly throughout. Ikat, stripes and enlarged floral print punctuate a collection that pulls from a host of sources from south American knits to 70’s sequins. You do really get a sense of a wardrobe collected through a lifetime and worn with an air of sophistication that comes only with age.

As last season, the shoes are by Loeffler Randall and act as an extension for the fluid flow of print. They also make the collection more recognisable as Suno, which is a huge and impressive feat for a relatively new brand. I can’t begin to tell you how much I love these!

As part of a preview piece Suno offered up their inspirations board to Vogue.com

friday i'm in love.

Yokoo is somewhat of an Etsy giant. Having been featured in the New York Times back in 2009 her hand knitted creations have been seen on the heads/necks of Susie Lau, Tavi and Natasha Goldenburg to name a few. It seems a bit strange to be writing about womb-like knit wear in the middle of July, but true to British summer time the weather is more suitable for Yokoo than ever. I’ve been looking at her Etsy shop for months now but simply can’t decide what to buy, everything is so brilliant. I love that Yokoo models the pieces herself, styled perfectly with the earthy tones that seem to run through her collection.

Etsy have made this stunning video of Yokoo as part of their Handmade Portraits collection http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hltPypAcrw&feature=relmfu

I imagine she is an aspirational figure for all those designer makers working two jobs to get their name out there, which is no doubt hugely deserved. Her success certainly supports the argument for sites like Etsy and NOTHS for their ability to catapult these brands to an international market.

Jeepers Creepers, where d'ya get those peepers

A few seasons ago Sonia Rykiel brought out these amazing Creepers. In her Sprin Summer 11 collection she updated them to these beauties below. Along with the Prada espadrilles they are my favorite shoes this Summer and now everywhere I look I see platform flats.

As much as my inner goth loves the first pair, I wanted something a little more understated - cue these Monki stunners. I've been living in them all summer, hence the dust.

Alfred approves too. Though, as you can see, he prefers hats.

kristin vestgard

I came across Kristin Vestgard's paintings on a blog I cannot remember the name of, but her name stuck with me and even more so her beautiful paintings. I'm not sure if Norwegian born Kristin has been snapped up by a fashion brand yet, but to me the ethereal and feminine qualities of her work scream Erdem or Marc Jacobs. Nothing would be more beautiful than a lookbook littered with Kristin's images, or better still - an animation!

These voluminous beauties are very Jill Sander.

How To: Christopher Kane

I really fell in love with Christopher Kane's Spring 2011 collection. Never did I imagine I would really wear anything which combined neon and lace though. However, I recently bought this sleeveless lace dress from American Apparel and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I'd like one in yellow too and one in pink if they made it. And it's only £46.00!

les heal me

With 'Christmas in July' season at work I've been talking so much about winter time that I've actually managed to conjure up a flu that December would be proud of. So instead of being outside and enjoying the summer I'm pretending to enjoy it whilst lusting over the Les Heal SS10 collection. If we were off on holiday again (Lucinda, shall we?) there would literally be no need to pack anything else. The billowing blue dress is perfect for a hot summer night and teamed with this Clare Vivier yellow clutch from Bodie and Fou I would be a summer holiday personified. Better not go anywhere too breezy though, one strong wind and I'm pretty sure I'd be air born!

Post Sample

Cass and I got some dream deals at the Mother of Pearl sample sale on Saturday. Unfortunately, the dream couldn't quite afford this stunning playsuit from their A/W 2010 collection. If anyone feels like buying this for me I will be eternally grateful.

Celine Resort 2012

Phoebe Philo is taking the minimalists on an adventure. Having hooked us on menswear trousers and shirts, she seems to have a sense of where we want to go next, and this is an altogether more adventurous place. Whilst still paying homage to the classic Celine look, Philo has introduced latex, logo t-shirts and XL floral print to a collection of clean and structured lines. For those who are not ready for the change, there's the oversized mac or the white sheer shirts which play more closer to home. I for one am hugely excited by the change of winds at Celine, and would follow Philo anywhere!
